Devotions from My Mother: Jesus’ Humanity

‘Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.” ‘

Matthew 26:38-39,42,42

Jesus did not go lightly to the Cross. His humanity shrank from the agony set before Him. In the garden, He approached His Father honestly, asking to be spared if at all possible. However, His intimate relationship with His Father enabled Him to surrender His will to the Father’s for the salvation of us all. In your garden, be honest with our Father about how you feel. He already knows and loves you. Trust Him and surrender your will to His. You have everything to gain!

Father, help me to understand and desire that an intimate relationship with you means total surrender. That I trust my life into Your hands. That once I have, I have everything to gain.

In Yeshua’s (Jesus) Name I pray, Amen.
